As a writer, one of my most useful working tools is the bistro chair. Indeed, I do a lot of sitting and watching. I am grateful to Liz Davidson for choosing images and words for a chair from my novel Le Jardin sablier, the first draft of which was written in a little house with a big garden in Sutton. She knows how the quiet time I spent in that garden opened up the world to me. Much could also be said about the importance  for an artist of elbow grease and getting your hands dirty. Liz and I are waiting for The Garden Spade Project to explore that theme.
